Choose

How to choose: the progression

Ordered by grade and by what each trip asks you to have done before. For the full list of Indian 6,000ers beyond our own calendar, see first 6,000m peak in India.

  1. First 6,000er: Dzo Jongo East or Kang Yatse II

Dzo Jongo East (6,217m, Alpine PD) and Kang Yatse II (6,250m, Alpine PD+, 9 days) share the Markha Valley approach from Leh in July and August. Neither needs prior mountaineering experience; we teach the skills at base camp. Dzo Jongo East is a grade easier, with no fixed-rope ridge. We strongly recommend one Himalayan trek on which you slept at 4,500m or higher. To climb both, the Twin Peak Expedition (12 days) links them.

  2. A technical first 6,000er: Black Peak

Black Peak (6,387m, Alpine AD-, 15 days, Dehradun to Dehradun) adds glacier travel and a 75-foot fixed-rope ice wall at roughly 70 degrees on summit day. It works as a first 6,000m peak only for a fit Basic Mountaineering Course graduate.

  3. Second 6,000er: Kang Yatse I

Kang Yatse I (6,400m, Alpine AD, 14 days) is a mixed rock-and-ice ridge with steep snow above 50 degrees and multi-pitch fixed lines. You need a prior 6,000m summit. The trip climbs Kang Yatse II first as acclimatisation.

  4. A longer glaciated expedition: Bhagirathi II

Bhagirathi II (6,512m, 20 days, Dehradun to Dehradun) in Gangotri is ice and snow-covered ice from base camp up, with crevasses and fixed ropes on the steeper sections. A Basic or Advanced Mountaineering Course (BMC/AMC) is required, and we recommend a 6,000m summit before it.

The non-technical option

Kilimanjaro (5,895m, 9 days, Moshi to Moshi) in September 2027 needs no ropes or climbing skills. It suits a trekker with one or two high Himalayan treks behind them, or someone planning a 6,000er who wants to test a summit night first.

FAQ

Expeditions 2027: questions

When do bookings open for TVT's 2027 expeditions?

Bhagirathi II (3–22 May 2027, 10 of 10 spots left) and Black Peak (30 May – 13 Jun 2027, 8 of 10 spots left) are open for booking now. Kang Yatse I & II, Dzo Jongo East and Mt Kilimanjaro are planned windows from our 2027 plan. We publish batch dates and prices on each trip page when we confirm them. Message us on WhatsApp on +91 9004992822 if you want to hear when a batch opens.

Which 2027 expedition should I pick for my first 6,000m peak?

Dzo Jongo East (6,217m, Alpine PD) or Kang Yatse II (6,250m, Alpine PD+, 9 days), both in Ladakh in July and August 2027. Neither needs prior mountaineering experience; we teach crampon, ice axe and rope skills at base camp. We strongly recommend one Himalayan trek on which you slept at 4,500m or higher. Black Peak (6,387m, Alpine AD-, 15 days) works as a first 6,000er only for a fit Basic Mountaineering Course graduate. Kang Yatse I and Bhagirathi II are not first 6,000m peaks.

Can I climb two 6,000m peaks in one season?

Yes, in Ladakh. The 14 days Kang Yatse I expedition climbs Kang Yatse II (6,250m) first as acclimatisation, then Kang Yatse I (6,400m), so one trip gives two summits. It needs a prior 6,000m summit. For first-timers, the Twin Peak Expedition climbs Kang Yatse II and Dzo Jongo East on one Markha Valley approach in 12 days. Twin Peaks is not a separate line on our 2027 plan; ask us if you want it in the July to August window.

Which is the hardest expedition on the 2027 calendar?

By grade, Kang Yatse I (Alpine AD): a mixed rock-and-ice ridge with steep snow above 50 degrees and multi-pitch fixed lines. It is our most technical Indian expedition and we only take climbers with a prior 6,000m summit. Bhagirathi II is the highest (6,512m) and longest (20 days) trip on the plan, rated Very Difficult: ice and snow-covered ice from base camp up, crevasses and fixed ropes. A Basic or Advanced Mountaineering Course (BMC/AMC) is required, and we recommend a 6,000m summit before it.

Does the Kilimanjaro trek in 2027 need technical skills?

No. The Machame route is trail and scree walking with no ropes or climbing skills. It is rated Difficult because of summit night: a midnight start from Barafu Camp (4,700m), about 1,100m of gain on loose scree to Stella Point (5,800m), then on to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The trek is 9 days, Moshi to Moshi, in September 2027. Flights and the Tanzania visa are not included.

How much do TVT's 2027 expeditions cost?

Bhagirathi II ₹1,60,000 (2027 batch), Kang Yatse I ₹1,15,000 listed, Black Peak ₹80,000 (2027 batch) and Kang Yatse II ₹54,000 listed, per climber. "Listed" is the price on the trip page today; we set a 2027 batch's price when we publish it. Dzo Jongo East and Mt Kilimanjaro are priced on enquiry.
