Privacy Policy

The Vertical Tribe runs guided treks and expeditions from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. This page says exactly what this website collects, where it goes, and how to get it removed. It describes what the site actually does — not a template.

What we collect

When you only read the site: nothing you type, because there is nothing to type. Our analytics provider records a pageview — the page, the referring site, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type. We use it to see which pages answer people's questions and which do not.

When you send a booking enquiry: the fields on the form — your name, phone number, group size, the trip and departure you picked, and any message you write — plus the page you sent it from and your browser's user-agent string. We ask for a phone number rather than an email address because a guide calls you back; we do not ask for an address, a date of birth, or a document number at enquiry stage.

When you use the public API: your IP address is held in memory for up to 60 seconds so the rate limit in the developer docs can be enforced. It is not written to disk and not linked to anything else.

We do not collect payment card details on this website. Payments for a confirmed trip are arranged separately, directly with our team.

Where it is stored and who can see it

The site is hosted on Vercel, which terminates the connection and keeps short-lived server logs. Booking enquiries are stored in our own operational database (Turso/libSQL) and are visible only to The Vertical Tribe team through a password-protected admin page. New enquiries also trigger an internal notification to our own team channel so a guide sees them quickly.

Analytics is Google Analytics 4. Web fonts are served by Google Fonts, which means your browser requests the font files from Google and Google sees that request. We do not run advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, session recorders or heatmaps on this site.

We never sell, rent, or trade your details. We share them with a third party only when the trip itself requires it — a permit application to the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, a forest or wildlife sanctuary office, a national park authority in Nepal, or a rescue and evacuation service in an emergency. Those disclosures happen after you have booked and are limited to what the authority asks for.

Cookies and local storage

Google Analytics sets its own cookies to tell repeat visits apart. The site itself does not set advertising or profiling cookies. Our admin area keeps a login token in your browser's session storage, which is erased when you close the tab, and it is not used on any public page.

Blocking cookies in your browser, or using a content blocker, does not break anything on this site. Every page, the booking form included, works with analytics blocked.

Your choices

Email hello@theverticaltribe.com from the address you contacted us with, or message the number on the contact page, and ask us to:

  • send you a copy of what we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete your enquiry and contact details.

We action deletion requests within 30 days. The only thing we may keep afterwards is a record we are legally required to hold — a permit filing for a trip you were on, for instance — and we will tell you if that applies.

Children

Our expeditions are not sold to people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. Minors on a family trek are booked by a parent or guardian, and their details reach us through that adult rather than through this website.

AI agents, crawlers and reuse

We publish content deliberately for machine reading. Our robots.txt allows AI crawlers, llms.txt summarises the site, and the Indian Himalayan peak dataset is released under CC-BY-4.0. None of those files contain personal data about visitors or clients — they describe peaks, trips and prices. Booking enquiries are never exposed through the public API or any machine-readable file.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes materially we update the date at the top of the page and describe the change here. This version is dated 2026-08-28.
